PAUS is a mental health support app developed and operated by Sakib Jafri ("PAUS," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why, how it's used, and the choices you have.
PAUS is not a substitute for professional medical or mental health care. If you are experiencing a medical emergency or crisis, contact emergency services or a crisis hotline immediately. See "Crisis Resources" at the end of this policy.
Who can use PAUS
PAUS is intended for users 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, contact us at jfri.studio@gmail.com and we will delete it.
Information we collect
Information you provide directly
- Onboarding responses: your reported anxiety type, symptoms, triggers, frequency, timeline, medical history, and related answers used to personalize your experience.
- Personal content you create: journal-style entries, letters to yourself, gratitude captions, symptom descriptions, Vault predictions, your personal Emergency Script and Anchor Phrase, and similar content you write or record within the app.
- Photos: if you use the Gratitude Interrupt feature, photos you take are stored so you can look back on them later.
- Account information: if you choose to link your account via Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google, entirely optional and used only to help recover your data if you get a new device, we receive the identifier and, if you permit it, an email address from that provider.
Information collected automatically
- Camera: PAUS uses your device's rear camera and flash to estimate your heart rate during specific features, including onboarding, Crisis Mode, and certain Daily Mode activities. This processing happens on your device. The camera is also used for live-view grounding exercises and, if you choose to use it, photo capture for Gratitude Interrupt.
- Microphone: certain activities use your device's microphone to detect breath or spoken input during an exercise. This is used to detect that a sound occurred. It is not transcribed or stored as audio or text.
- Motion sensors: the accelerometer is used during certain physical grounding exercises to detect movement.
- Usage and activity data: which features you use, session completions, streaks, self-reported scores, and similar usage patterns, used to personalize your experience and generate features like your Nervous System Score, Anxiety Profile, and Pattern Report.
- Device and technical information: a randomly generated, anonymous account identifier is used to associate your data with your account. We also automatically collect standard crash and error diagnostic information (see "Crash Reporting" below).
How we use your information
- To provide and personalize the app's core features (Crisis Mode, Daily Mode, your Anxiety Profile, Evidence Vault, and similar).
- To generate personalized written content, such as your daily reflections, pattern insights, and body-sensation explanations, using a third-party AI service (see "Third parties" below).
- To maintain your subscription and account status.
- To improve app stability through crash and error monitoring.
- To communicate with you about your account or the app, if you've enabled notifications.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your personal health information for advertising.
Third parties we share information with
We work with a small number of service providers, each with a specific, limited role:
- Supabase hosts our backend database and authentication. Your account data and app content are stored here.
- Anthropic powers certain AI-generated content features, such as personalized daily reflections and body-sensation explanations. When you use these features, relevant context, such as a symptom description or a summary of recent activity, is sent to Anthropic's API to generate a response. This request is routed through our own server. Anthropic does not receive your name or direct identity.
- RevenueCat manages subscription purchases and status, and receives purchase and transaction data needed to verify your subscription.
- Sentry provides crash and error reporting. This is configured to exclude screenshots, view hierarchy, and personal content. Only technical information is sent, such as which screen an error occurred on, never the content of your journal entries, symptoms, or similar.
- Apple and Google, if you make a purchase through the App Store or Google Play, or use Sign in with Apple or Google, process the relevant transaction or authentication data under their own privacy policies.
We do not sell or rent your information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.
Your data, your control
- Storage: your personal history is stored securely and associated with your account.
- Deletion: you can delete your data at any time from Settings, Delete My Data. See our Data Deletion page for exactly what this removes, and how to request deletion by email if you no longer have the app installed.
- Access: you can request a copy of your data by contacting us at jfri.studio@gmail.com.
- Optional account linking: linking Sign in with Apple or Google is entirely optional and can be done at any time from Settings. Declining does not limit your access to any paid features.
Crash reporting
We use automated crash reporting to help us find and fix bugs. This is configured to exclude your personal content, screenshots, and detailed device state. Only technical error information, such as which screen an error happened on, is included.
Data security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted storage and secure API communication. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes, we will provide notice within the app.
